Our Work

YoKid ... Stretch Your Limits provides yoga to help children from all socioeconomic backgrounds foster self-awareness and realize their full physical, academic, social, and emotional potential.  YoKid offers low-cost programming for any interested school or organization in the DC Metro Area , and further-reduced or no-cost programs to children who come from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds.  All fees are based on a sliding scale, to ensure that all kids can participate.

The benefits of yoga & medidation for kids are numerous:

• Improves self-esteem
• Promotes self-discipline
• Increases patience & tolerance
• Reduces stress
• Improves balance
• Improves circulation
• Reduces/maintains weight

Currently, YoKid provides yoga classes for Higher Achievement scholars who participate in the Alexandria program at Hammond Middle School.  They also provide reduced-cost/free DC-based programs for Life Pieces to Masterpieces (www.lifepieces.org),  Heads Up DC at four different schools, Imagine Public Charter School Southeast, Communities in Schools Ferebee Hope location, The Fishing School (Summer Program), Achievement Prep Academy, SEED Public Charter School, and Kid Power DC at two sites.

YoKid receives funding from the 21^st Century grant for Heads Up DC and recently received the ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program internship award.  They also receive in-kind corporate support from lululemon athletica, Whole Foods, and are sponsored by community businesses and yoga studios.  The Oasis Foundation is proud to support YoKid's teacher training program.  Please visit http://yokid.org/ for more information on YoKid.
